[edit] Your first day on UO:R by kinwoodisgood

When starting your first character in the UO world, I suggest making a warrior, they can kill monsters with no real cost.

When choosing the skills on the first few screens, go to the advanced tab, it can make the character you start with much easier to use.

I really suggest choosing 60 strength, and the others don't matter for this character.

For the skills I suggest you choose 50 magery, 49 resist and 1 in either, fencing, or swordsmanship.

Now let me explain why I suggest this combination. 50 magery will give you a full spell book on UO:R, and will allow you to cast spells like cure, heal, and Greater heal at times.

The 49 resist will help save your life when Pks (player killers) show up to kill you, it also will help with Air elementals and reapers, if you are unfortunate enough to find them.

The reason you want the one point in one of the weapon skills is because it will give you weapon that you don't loose unless you are a red player.

Pick a name and how you want your character to look, and you are off.

You will start at the Britain Inn, I suggest going to your bank getting like 6 gold from the 1000 you start with and buying some scissors from the tailor.

Then go to the Britain moon gate. The moon gate is south of Britain.

Once there you can go to Yew in Yew go south to the farms that has sheep and cattle. Kill them - it will raise your weapon skill, anatomy and tactics. Collect the hides and cut them up with scissors to lower their weight, collect the wool from the sheep to make cloth in town at the tailor shop.

Once you are almost maximum weight, go to town. Then head to the tailor. At the tailor double click the wool and target the spinning wheel, this makes balls of yarn, then double click the balls of yarn and target the loom to make bolts of cloth. Use the scissors on the cloth 2 times to make bandages. Sell the hides to the tanner.

Do this cycle a few times, this will get you badly needed gold to buy regs, and should stockpile some bandages that you need to train healing. I suggest you buy the healing skill from the Healer NPC (non player character.) The way you do this is to click the NPC, select train healing, and then a message will pop up telling you he will train you in that skill for a certain amount of gold. Drag and drop the exact amount of gold onto the NPC. Do this till every one of them says "you know all I can teach".

At this point you will have some fighting skill, tactics, anatomy, magery, meditation resist and healing. This is a good start to a decent warrior. Then you can start fighting liches, daemons and other easier monsters in the field (not in the dungeon) with hit and run tactics. Eventually this character can be used for pvp.

When starting on a new shard, my first character has always been a fighter - normally swords or fencing (mace is just as good just personal preference)
start your character with

  • 60 strength
  • 50 healing
  • 49 resisting spells
  • 1 fighting skills (swords/fencing/mace)

create your character starting off in Britain first off you need a weapon and bandages for your character so go to the local tailors and buy some cloth. Cut this up into bandages using scissors. Then make your way to the black smithy and buy a extra weapon or two. now put most things in the bank. We won't be fighting far away for now, so it doesn't matter much if you have to go back. Once you're equipped, head to the graveyard just above Britain and start working your skills. If you get into too much trouble you can always run into town and call guards on the monsters.
Once you have spent a few hours here, you will want bigger creatures to fight. Usually I end up heading off to Despise (a shortish walk north). The monsters here are bigger, so you will gain quicker, but also get hurt more. There is a healer located outside which will resurrect you. I also advise cunningly hiding a small few bandages somewhere. So if you die, you at lease stand a small chance of recovering your stuff. In Despise start off killing (or being chased by) ettins and then move on to earth elementals. During this time you should gain some gold and invest it in more bandages and some cheap armor. Studded leather is best for now (don't spend too much on this). Sooner or later you will be able to take on 2-3 monsters at a time, and it is quite possible to GM all of your fighting skills here.

My first character is generally used to fund my second character (usually a mage), or it is used to get some money together and then I convert my first character into a mage. Mages do cost a lot to keep going. Fighters are the best money maker characters at the start; and then, once you have some money, a tamer/provoker or a tamer/mage is the best for making money.
