[edit] The basics of group mage combat
I've divided group mage combat into 6 main area's;
* Healing * Syncing * Strengthening * Faking * Reading your opponents * Communication
[edit] Reading your opponents
Too start with the second most important thing which is reading your opponents you need to know when they're defensive (Healing,Strengthening) and when they're offensive (attacking or casting damage spells).
Why?
This is the easiest way to die to cast explosion when an opponent is already loaded (has explosion caste). IF you can read your opponents and know what they're doing or what they plan to do next you're one step ahead of the game.
How?
The only real way to learn this is too play and take note.
* Be vigilant * Be quick to respond * Have great communication with your teammates
[edit] Communication
Scratch what I said earlier as i forgot about this one but this is by far the most important factor. Communication is the difference between knowing when a sync is coming at you or failing to kill your opponent.
The basics Using some sort of voice program will put you at an advantage to most pvpers as you can communicate a lot quicker then through text.
My recommended voice programs would be;
- Ventrilo (recommended. once downloaded, you can join the DFI vent server at ventrilo.defianceuo.com port: 10813)
- Skype (Almost no delay but lacks other functions)
http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/welcomeback/
- Teamspeak (Never used this)
When Group pvping Make sure you have 1 person calling targets and syncs and heals. If you aren't calling you should only say certain things and not incessantly chat about nothing
[edit] Leading/Calling
[edit] Common Things to call
* Targets * 2 1 Drop * Heals on "xxxx" * Misc tactics that you feel appropriate
[edit] Following
* Heals on xxxx * Disrupted/Location of enemy * if opponent is stunned * Misc tactics/information you feel is appropriate
and now onto actual combat...
[edit] Syncing Damage
This is the easiest way to kill a good opponent to have synchronized damages that hit at the exact same time on one opponent causing an instant 100+ damage, but its harder then I make it sound.
[edit] The Drops
The main variation of Sync drops start with explosion so for example Explosion Ebolt or Explosion Poison here's the mainly used;
* Explosion Ebolt, The most common drop as it takes minimal mana to kill someone with 0 fizzle chance @ gm magery * Explosion Flamestrike, High damage combo a very easy combo too sync and effective in small numbers * Explosion Weaken Poison, Effective way to kill anyone 2 man if they are slow to cure probably the most deadly combo in all forms of group pvp * Explosion Mindblast, Hard to sync but can be very effective depending on the opponent * Explosion weaken weaken, For larger group fights that require real effort and very useful if you are at low mana
Now as the idea of a sync is all damage hits at once that requires you too time Explosion/XXXX so the damage hits at the same time here's a basic run through of some techniques including RPV's.
Explosion Ebolt
Method one
To time the ebolt: Hold the Spell cursor for half a second (if that) and use a last target key.
Method Two
Wait til you see the spell cursor and manually click the bar in uo just using reaction time.
Method Three
After you drop the explosion count down til it hits and drop the ebolt on your own count. Not generally recommended.

(note: your ping makes a big difference when trying to sync spell damage. the above guide is made for people with pings under 80-100. with higher pings you will have to change your delay accordingly, or may not have to delay your spells at all. you will have to figure your own timing out when practicing spell combos.)
Explosion Flamestrike
This is the easiest too sync simply hold last target down once you cast for an easy sync. http://www.uomovies.com/download.pl?id=2809
Explosion Weaken Poison
The aim of this drop is too make someone at low enough strength that they can be killed by 3 big spells. So the poison has to hit at the right time!
- Simply spam the weaken then hold the poison til you hear the sound of the ebolt then spam last target.
- Count down method again where you spam the weaken and try to count the explo so the poison hits at the same time.

Explosion Mindblast
The same methods as Explosion Ebolt except the delay before dropping the mindblast is slightly longer because of differences in casting time. Again, you will have to figure your own timing out.
[edit] Strengthening
Strengthening is basically keeping yourself at maximum Hp by either using strength pots or casting strength, Jewels, Petals Etc. But it is a bit more complicated then it sounds.
[edit] The Method
Use a strength pot before every drop while casting greater heal while your partner(s) Heal that you will have another Heal prepped for the drop. Remember the lower your strength the easier you are too kill.
[edit] Healing
By far the hardest part of mage group fighting is healing a sync but there are ways to learn it but the only way too perfect it is practice!
[edit] Healing Methods
- By sound. The sound of the ebolt or flamestrike is when you hit your last target with the heal and it should heal a decent amount of damage but it requires practice to recognize what part of the sound u should heal at.
- By animation. When the Ebolt animation is 2-4 Tiles from the target you use your last target key or your target self key.
[edit] Faking
Faking is just your way too get offensive on an opponent it's fairly complicated but really it's as simple as casting Ebolt when they cast explosion and pretend too drop at certain times but really it's only something that can be practiced and not taught (At least by me).
[edit] Misc information for pvping
- Using Razor: Under "more options" tab in razor it is recommended that "use smart last target" is checked and so is "Block heal if poisoned" and that "queue last target and target self" is deactivated. Smart last target remembers who you cast beneficial and harmful spells on so you can effectively have 2 last targets at the same time. Block heal if target is poisoned stops you from losing your spell cursor if you target a heal on someone who's poisoned, meaning you can wait for them to cure and then try again without recasting.
- Use your 7 skills as much as possible. Use stun, use inscription, use what you can too win.
- Take advantage of stuck targets. A para blow or a stun is a perfect opportunity to call a drop.
- Always be strengthen. You already know what that means.
- Use the terrain. Cast behind walls or round corners too keep your opponent off guard, stay at different points on a screen so you know who your opponent is targeting.
- Use Common sense !!!!
